I am terrified of losing up and coming prospects and current roster players that may not be so easily replaced..
I don't remember how many of each position can be protected but you know they will want to protect at least
Lehner
Karlsson
Turris
MacArthur
Ryan
Zibanejad
Ceci
Lazar
If you have 2-4 teams drawing on expansion draft there are a lot of players that could disapear from the senators.. |

agreed Yost, the 'talent dilution' argument has no basis. Maybe it makes sense theoretically, but the noticeable difference would be negligible. Especially when more kids around the world are playing the sport than ever before - there will be enough talented hockey players to keep us entertained. |

Good read as usual Yost,
I'm curious, how do the expansion rules work again, as far as aquiring NHL players from current teams to new expansion teams?
The current 30 NHL teams select 7-8 untouchable players from the roster that can't be picked up from the new teams. And is only one player per team aloud to be taken?

You can protect 1 G, 5 D, and 9 F from your team, so we could protect (guessing at guys on 2017 roster):
Lehner
Karlsson Ceci
Weircioch Cowen
Claesson
Mac Turris Ryan
Stone Zibby Hoffman
Puempel Lazar Paul
which would likely be more than enough to keep the core together. |

No basis at all, used to be that only 20 guys out of every draft made it to the big show, now we have upwards of 50 players per draft that are making impacts in the NHL at some point in their careers. |

With more teams over the years, more guys get a chance. Not hard to figure out. Would a Colin Greening make an NHL squad in 1992? Probably not. Expanding creates job opportunities for less skilled players. Does nothing to improve the star power for the league. |

All this expansion talk.. I say why not relocation talk ?
Florida Panthers & Arizona Coyotes should be moved. both teams sit at the league basement for atendance year after year.
http://www.hockeyattendan...ue/nhl/2013/?sort=avg_att
Edit: Most likely destenations would be Seatle & Quebec City..
Have to wonder if a team in Que City would effect Ottawa's attendance ? |

Ya sort out the struggling teams in your 30 team league first then expand. |

Actually, I would think it would help it...more local competition could drive better engagement for fans.

I agree with trying Weircioch and Karlsson. Weir is similar enough to Kuba who Karlsson won his Norris paired with so it makes sense to at least try. |

I still think Methot plays with Karllson - I think Cowen deserves his own pairing so he can be a player with an identity on Ottawa and build that second pairing D to his game.
Methot - EK
Cowen - Ceci
Weircoche - Phillips
Boro - Gryba |

I like it ,cowen needs a d partner with good puck skills .It allows Cowen to play his game, which is less about what he can do with the puck. Rather what he does to people that have the puck |

We already have issues with scoring in this league. By bringing in 2 more teams, you do dilute the talent that is worthy of playing in the league. They're way better off to relocate some teams, rather than expand. |

Cowen played most of his time with EK and he was horrible. There's really no good way to put these pairings together. If you line them up top-to-bottom by skill/ability, on their correct sides, it probably looks like this:
Methot-EK
Wiercioch-Gryba
Cowen-Ceci
Phillips/Borowiecki
Top two pairings look great, but the third is crap and there's no way Cowen or Phillips gets much time in the press box this year.
Now if Meth goes to the right side, then I guess you can flip Cowen and Wiercioch as needed. Still not ideal, because Phillips is playing... but you can't polish a turd.
Cowen-EK
Wiercioch-Methot
Phillips-Ceci |

I read on SSS that Waiver exempt players are ineligible to be stolen, so Lazar and Ceci wouldn't have to be protected.
Throw Chiasson onto my list |

Yost do you think the NHL would attempt to possibly re-locate two franchises in the US whilst opening up two expansion teams in Canada to maximize expansion fess etc...?
Would also allow the US teams to compete quicker considering Canadians seem to be more die hard and perhaps more patient/open to idea of sucking for ahwile? |

Allow them to score?
In all seriousness, Ceci is not ready for 2nd pairing duties, and whoever was talking about molding a pairing around Cowen's game is out of their mind - we need to hope Cowen can show his game is even NHL caliber before we start molding pairings around the guy. |

Cowen has shown he's an NHL player, he's got 160 NHL games - 2 playoff rounds. He's an NHL player and is going to be good for us, everyone was bad last year and everyone will be better this year - him and Lehner are going to be the most improved Sens I think |

He hasn't shown he's an nhl player, and if he has it was a bottom pairing. He looked like a ECHL quality player last year |
